Are Bombers the Next Blazers?

whoa, that’s a bold question.

Can anything really replace the blazer? Probably not. Yet, that doesn’t stop me from contemplating what outerwear piece could become the next “it” jacket. The bomber jacket hasn’t had its day in the spotlight for quite a while but it may be time to bring this baby back into rotation.

I’ve always loved this style and recently been drawn to an very oversized fit. I find this shape lends a cool, casual vibe to any outfit just as a distressed pair of jeans or a worn in graphic tee does.

I’ve been playing with different ways to wear my bombers because the style is so versatile! One way is to wear it as a shirt that mimics the shape of an over-sized sweatshirt, like this outfit here. It’s just as comfortable but a bit more put together. Another look I’ve been loving is wearing it with office trousers. I can bet there’s a pair of classic black trousers sitting in your closet somewhere that hasn’t seen the light of day since that job interview. Why not try it with a simple tee and over-sized bomber? The shape of the jacket will tone down the fussiness of the pants while the professionalism of the pants classes up the jacket. The juxtaposition gives the look some edge and style.
