When I wore this outfit I wondered – is the dress & jeans combo still a thing? I never did it when it was trendy because it just didn’t suit my style. However, when the weather suddenly cooled, I realized I didn’t give this dress enough play this summer; and I just wasn’t quite ready to pack it away. So instead of treating this dress as a “dress”, I thought about it as a top/vest and paired it with (gasp!) my skinny jeans.
While skinny jeans are still a staple in every denim collection and still seen in all stores, I’ve taken them out of my everyday rotation in favor of straight or wide-leg jeans. (Fun Fact: these were my very first high-waisted jeans and they aren’t even that high comparatively!). What I love about this look is that it’s given new life to my well loved but neglected skinny jeans.
Since the floral pattern of this dress is grounded in navy blue, it transitions really well into the Fall. Right now, I’m wearing it with a simple tee underneath but as the weather cools even more, I’m really looking forward to pairing it with a turtleneck.
Even though this dress is a couple of years old, it’s still relevant for this season as the “western prairie girl” trend is in full force. Naturally I added in my vintage “Klein Tools” buckle belt and cowboy-inspired boots. To complement the bright flowers in the dress, I brought out my purple Rebecca Minkoff M.A.B. and popped on a berry lip. I kept my jewelry super minimal so the dress could remain the standout piece of the outfit.
I hope this gives you some inspiration to wear your floral dresses for just a little while longer; and maybe to dust off those skinny jeans.
