How to Wear Color Trends // Living Coral

“… Nature is one of the leading elements in our choice. It speaks to coral reefs. Vibrating coral in the sunset. Some place we’d want to visit… just like coral nurtures marine life, we want to nurture the color and keep it alive”

Leatrice Elseman in an interview by Wendy MacNaughton, The New York Times

I am a lover of color.

If you haven’t noticed 😜. No color is off limits. I may incorporate it in a small way like on my shoes or nails but there’s always a splash of color. Yet when Pantone announced their Color of the Year, Living Coral, I realized I did not own any coral clothing! I was shocked because this color flatters my skin tone, and pairs beautifully with so many other colors. Quite simply, it brings life to an outfit and our day.

Studies have shown that orange is the most hated color in the rainbow. Don’t make the mistake of confusing orange and coral! The beauty of coral is the subtle pink undertone which makes it much more pleasing to the eye. The pink tone allows it to look great with almost every color. Truly. I actually had a hard time narrowing down my favorite color combinations because so many variations look beautiful! But I did it. I wanted to inspire you to incorporate coral into your closet. I’ve pulled together 4 combinations I’ll be wearing through spring, summer and well into Fall!

Oh and if you’re not a huge fan of color, that’s ok! There are more great ways to dabble in this color trend.

  • Coral Nail Polish for the most subtle pop
  • Coral shoes or bag paired with an all white outfit would be killer!
  • My favorite way to wear coral is in lipstick form of course! The shade flatters every skin tone so you won’t regret it!

Since I had a surprisingly difficult time finding coral at the thrift or vintage stores, I rounded up my favorites from Etsy so you can start wearing this trend today!

Wear this flirty dress with white sandals for the perfect weekend in the park look (even if you’re not into parks)
The easiest and chicest way to wear coral bottoms is with a classic white button down. Keep it classic with white shoes or add a pop with lime green strappy sandals.
Wear this top with cut off denim shorts & espadrilles for an easy weekend look OR beige linen wide leg trousers & sandals for the coolest work look.
