How to Wear Cowboy Boots for the Modern Girl

Ever since the fashion world proclaimed cowboy boots the “it” shoe of the season, I have been on the hunt for the perfectly worn vintage pair. Well I found them this weekend! I was visiting my favorite vintage shops in Jersey City (if you’re curious why, I have a life update at the end of this post :)) and found them at Tah Vintage. Needless to say, I was very excited when they slipped perfectly onto my feet (and for $30 – woot, woot!). I owned a pair of cowboy boots back in high school that I wore all the time so I instantly saw the potential in my established wardrobe. However, I can understand how an outfit styled with cowboy boots can turn into a “costume” which may persuade many of you away from these “classic” boots. As requested by my readers, I styled my cowboy boots two different ways that don’t make me feel like Iā€™m about to head to a rodeo (even though that would be very awesome too). šŸ™‚

For my first look, I wanted to style an outfit using pieces you may already have in your own wardrobe, and for some of you, this could be a great outfit to wear to work. There are a couple things happening in this look that help “normalize” the cowboy boots.

1. Neutral Colors – keep to a palette of neutrals for a more chic vibe

2. Classic Silhouettes – skinny jeans, a blazer and a slim turtleneck; these are classic wardrobe staples that modernize cowboy boots

Since cowboy boots are a bold enough statement piece, pairing them with simpler, classic pieces really creates a chic, modern look.

Next up is an easy outfit for the weekend or a casual Friday. Again, I used neutral colors and classic pieces to create this look. This time, I chose not to feature the entire boot, so I covered them under a pair of flared jeans. After all, cowboy boots are really comfortable to wear so I treat them just like any of my comfy weekend boots. For some extra pizzazz (because I love pizzazz), I layered up gold jewelry and added a bright bag.

I hope these outfits and my tips have given you motivation to break out those cowboy boots and wear them confidently! Keep checking my instagramfor more outfit inspo šŸ™‚

Ok, it’s life update time – I’m moving back to New York this week! As many of you know, at the end of March I moved from New York to Pittsburgh for a job opportunity. I grew up in New Jersey and called New York my home for 12 years so leaving my family and friends was difficult, but I was excited about an opportunity that would expand my career. Well, 4 months later, that “great” opportunity didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. While it saddened me at first since we were starting to settle some roots in Pittsburgh, I reminded myself that things in life happen for good reasons. For me, the best part about having to look for a job elsewhere is that it brings me back to my family and friends! And that out ways any of the hardships associated to job searching and moving. So there you have it – I’m a New Yorker again!
