Let’s Get Creative with Ties

Does anyone else remember Avril Lavigne’s tie phase back in early 2000? Wearing a tie became THE punk rock look for every rebellious teenager, including moi. OK, so I wasn’t exactly a rebel, I still rocked that tie every which way, especially around my waist. Although at the time my jeans were WAY to low and I wore it with a wife beater (what in the world was I thinking). Let’s just say it wasn’t my favorite style moment.

However, the innovative styling hack never escaped me so when I spotted this amazing tie, the vision came rushing back. Yet this time, the vision was to wear it super long down my leg and HIGH on the waist. I’m so obsessed with how this look turned out, I’ve been hunting down really cool ties ever since we shot these pics! The tie can be used in the same way as a belt; cinch in a loose dress or run it through the belt loops on your jeans! The best part of this styling hack is that there are TONS of really cool ties available at thrift shops for really lows prices. Or you can just steal your dad’s ties – I’m sure he won’t mind. It’s in the name of fashion after all!

I love how you styled this look! I totally used to wear ties as belts in middle school because I idolized Avril, haha.
