Happy Friday everyone! While it’s still scorching outside, we know the cooler days are not too far away. If you’re like me and starting to plan your Fall wardrobe, I’d like to give you some inspiration from one of my go-to looks this season.
The silk button down shirt + denim combination.
When thrifting and vintage shopping I love finding really cool silk (or polyester) shirts, like this leopard one, and pairing them with any type of denim. I speak a lot about juxtaposition and this combination epitomizes that. There’s just something cool about an outfit when you pair two things that are not “meant” to be together – like a fancy silk shirt and casual deconstructed denim. For shoes, you can pick your poison. If you want it to edge more towards sophisticated (for work) then pair it with heels. If you’re feeling more casual, then a simple sandal or sneaker will look great too.
For this look in particular, I was inspired by the Fall trends which subtly mix two animal prints – leopard and snakeskin. One of the general rules for print mixing is to pair two prints from the same color family. Here, both my leopard and snake-skin patterns are in the warm browns color family so they complement each other really well. I also added a third animal print to the mix with my tortoise shell hoop earrings. Tortoise and leopard have a very similar pattern so they also work well together. And again, I kept it all in the same color family.
Then for an extra pop, I wore these Karl Lagerfeld orange mules I picked up from TJ Maxx (side note: check out TJ Maxx for great deals on really cool shoes). Brown is part of the orange family so those colors also play really well off each other. There’s also a touch of orange in the belt :).
I kept my makeup very minimal with this nude lip, because I was feeling the 70’s vibes of the shirt and belt.
