New Year’s Eve Outfit when You’re Staying in

Type  in “New Year’s Eve outfit ideas” into Pinterest and you’ll get loads and loads of pictures of girls in tight, short sequin dresses.  While in my 20’s I definitely enjoyed dressing up for New Year’s and having an excuse to deck myself out in as many sequins as possible.  But as I got older (pretty much when I turned 25), I no longer felt the need to wear anything slim, short or sparkly. I just wanted to be comfortable.  Yet, I try not to sacrifice style in the name of comfort (although on occasion I do sacrifice comfort for style🙈). So when I want to cozy AND chic, I look to non other than my friends with the berets; the french.

This look started with my desire to wear pajama pants.  Since wearing pajamas on the street has become a trend, no one will bat an eye. These tailored black satin pants are the right mix of polish and comfort.  True story: I wore them two years ago to a New Year’s eve party and no one noticed they were PJs.

To invoke the french, I paired the pants with a cozy and classic black striped sweater.  In order to maintain a more tailored and chic look, it’s important to keep the top slimmer rather than oversized.  An oversized fit leans more toward lounge-wear; unless that’s what you’re going for!

Then for some fun (it’s NYE after all!), I tied a bright vintage scarf around my neck and secured it with a hair clip.  Overall, I think it adds a bit of playfulness to a dominant black look.

Of course, as the french do, I secured my hair in a loose chignon and popped on bold lip.
