Weekend Adventures: Mount Washington

Oh hey, remember me? I’ve been gone so long I feel like I have to re-introduce myself but instead I’m just going to jump right back in 🙂 Last weekend, J and I decided to explore one of the best views in Pittsburgh – Mount Washington. And let me tell you the picture doesn’t do the view justice. Its breath-taking. We’ve gone up to the observation area a few times but we’ve always only done a quick pit stop, taken some pictures and left. This time we wanted to walk around and see what the place had to offer.

After we found parking (somehow we did – it’s not so easy ’round there), we walked by this cute little shop that sells Pittsburgh themed gifts and goodies. If you do love Pittsburgh or now someone who really love Pittsburgh, this is the place for you. The stuff was not at all kitschy and very well made. Of course, I couldn’t resist buying something, so we picked up a locally made candle (because candles are always great) and a flavored salt from a Pittsburgh salt company. We’ve since used its a topper to every meal and it is delicious.

With our goodies in hand, we made our way down the hill passing by some restaurants, a bakery and other local businesses. By that time we were itching for an afternoon pick me up so we were scouting a local coffee shop. Well, there’s a weird thing that happens in Pittsburgh sometimes – coffee shops close at 2:30! On a Saturday! This, I will never understand.

So without our coffee in hand, we walked to the edge to the enjoy the view but quickly moved on to find us some coffee. We needed our coffee.

Can I just say how much I love belt bags? They are great. Small yet practical. They keep your pants up and hands free!
