What to Wear to a Wedding That Doesn’t Involve a Dress

Don’t get me wrong, I love wearing a fancy dress to a wedding. But there comes a point when I want to wear something else for a change. Unfortunately I only have one wedding to go this summer (that’s actually fortunate because I don’t have the funds for multiple weddings right now!) so I was merely playing dress up with this look. But I loved how it turned out, I had to share it!

When I spotted this vest at Housing Works back in February, images of Katherine Hepburn flooded my head. I knew I wanted to wear this vest with a tailored black trouser – so chic & so cool. I had intended this outfit for work but when I put the two together, I got tuxedo versus suit vibes. Also, this vest lended itself to more fancier occasions due to its brocade design. So I went for it! I put on my very high heels that mimic the colors it the vest, added oversized earrings and finished it off with a cocktail bag. Then, just for fun, I added this old clock pin to the bottom of the vest to evoke a “grandfather pocket watch” look.

I don’t talk much about hair on my blog, but for me it’s integral part of keeping a retro inspired look modern. It’s all about the balance, so I left my hair somewhat “undone” and not overly styled (The wind also helped with that!).

If I’ve convinced you to hop on the vest train, scroll down to shop the amazing vintage vests I found on Etsy!
